The North Water Expedition Deck Bag may not be something you absolutely need but it’s something you’ll love using.
What We Like:
I first bought this as a solution to the lack of storage in my kayak. Since then, I’ve been able to downsize weight and size with my choice of dry bags, tent and other “heavy” items. However, I still love this deckbag for it’s accessibility to “everyday/hour/minute/now” items while out on the river.
The material is heavy nylon with a great easy on/off velcro attachment system making it really convenient to grab-and-go. There are many cords and buckles which make it easy to attach items you want at hand regardless of weather. Another feature that is kind of cool is the plastic on the inside of the bag (it creates the “dome” of the bag). It can also be pulled out and used as a cutting board. I haven’t used it for that purpose but it’s nice to know it has another function.
Full Disclosure:
The cargo bags that buckle to the sides do not come with the bag. You have to buy those separately. At $35 you can decide if it’s worth it. I use the bags to carry two 2 liter bottles of water. It keeps them handy distributes the weight evenly.
The Final Word:
Do you need this or any deck bag? Probably not. Will you love it if you buy it? Absolutely. Extra storage, convenient and secure, is always a bonus on multi-day paddling trips. You’ll always find something you “need” to stow in this deck bag.
